Bucs, Trojans sweep competition; Lakers settle for split

The Buccaneers’ wrestling team scored a pair of victories on Wednesday, defeating Grand Rapids Union and Wyoming.

Grand Haven dominated against Union, winning 74-6, then scored a closer win over Wyoming, 45-30.

Zach McKinnon, Camden Bertucci, Antonio Reyes, Dylan Berens, Dakota Juarez, Connor Moynihan, Matt Mulcahy, Tyler Tippens and Chase VanHoef each went unbeaten on the day.
Grand Haven hosts a tournament on Saturday, with the action beginning at 9 a.m.

TROJANS WIN TWICE

Fruitport scored wrestling wins over Mona Shores and Kelloggsville on Wednesday.

The Trojans topped the Sailors, 49-28. Winners for Fruitport were Chris Hendricks at heavyweight, Joshua Brooks at 103, Cameron Butler at 112, Andrew Bunda at 119, Gavin Taylor at 125, Alexander Foster at 130, Thomas Martinez at 135, Collin Butler at 140, and Austin Fialek at 152.

The Trojans overpowered Kelloggsville, 45-18. Winning in that match for the Trojans were Fialek at 152, Hendricks at heavyweight, Joshua Brooks at 103, Butler at 112, Bunda at 119, Foster at 130, Martinez at 140, and Butler at 145.
 

LAKERS SPLIT

Spring Lake went 1-1 at East Grand Rapids on Wednesday, losing to Kenowa Hills, 48-36, then beating East Grand Rapids, 45-24.

Gabe Giddings, Mason Dial, Jared Marod and Billy Belcher each went 2-0 on the night for the Lakers.

"Some of our upper weights wrestled real well tonight, but we still need to keep working," coach Dan Robinson said. "We are giving up way too many pins and with such a young team, we can't afford to do that if we want to be successful."

The Lakers will wrestle at Grand Haven on Saturday.
