For the second time in a week, Grand Haven’s varsity boys hockey team came up short against rival Mona Shores.

The Sailors, who scored a 5-1 win over the Buccaneers last week Wednesday, this time recorded a 3-0 shutout win over the Bucs at L.C. Walker Arena.

Mona Shores goalie Nate Rabbit made 23 saves to record the shutout while Grand Haven goalie Mark Nalley made 27 stops on 30 shots faces.

The Sailors scored once in each period, starting with Austin Swiatek’s goal in the opening period.

In the second, Gage Veltman lit the lamp, then Adam Ulfsas scored to make it 3-0 in the third.

Grand Haven had its chances on the power play as Mona Shores racked up 32 penalty minutes in the contest, but the Bucs couldn’t convert.

With the loss, Grand Haven falls to 4-2-2 overall and 1-2-1 in O-K Rainbow Tier I action.

The Bucs host East Kentwood in a non-conference game on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Holland Edge Arena. Following the game, fans will have a chance to “Skate with the Bucs,” as family, friends and fans can take to the ice free of charge.

Hockey grandma

Thirty two minutes in penalties!! This is an indication of the kind of hockey Mona Shores plays. The JV plays dirty hockey and apparently they bring their game to the varsity. Go Bucs
