Reeths-Puffer used a dominating second quarter to fend off Fruitport on Tuesday in non-conference boys basketball play, 42-53.
The Rockets led 9-6 after the first quarter, then outscored the Trojans 19-5 in the second to lead 28-11.
Fruitport (2-3) received 15 points from Tyler Fehler and 12 from Aaron Veihl, while Luke Brown scored seven.
The Trojans got to the free throw line 22 times, making 14.
Quinzell Pannell and Andrew Reinecke led the Rockets (2-1) with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Pannell also pulled down 15 rebounds.
Jessica Erny erupted for 19 points, leading Fruitport’s varsity girls basketball team to a 56-45 win over Godwin Heights on Tuesday.
ERNY LEADS TROJANS TO 2ND WIN
Erny knocked down three 3-pointers on her way to a career-high.
Debbie Peckel added 12 points and seven steals, while Francesca Cerniglia had 10 points and 11 boards for the Trojans, who are now 2-5 on the season.
Fruitport jumped out to a 9-3 lead and never looked back, leading 22-15 at halftime, then extending its advantage to 40-29 going into the fourth quarter.
Junior Varsity: Fruitport won its third-straight contest, a 34-26 triumph over Godwin Heights. Delany Bennett grabbed a stellar 17 rebounds and blocked two shots for the Trojans. Kara Knoll paced Fruitport in the scoring column with 10 points, while Morgan Thompson added eight points and five assists.
