WMC boys, girls dominate Freedom Christian

Warriors to play at Spring Lake today

The Western Michigan Christian girls basketball team got off to a slow start at Hudsonville Freedom Christian Friday, but warmed up the second half en route to a 43-35 win to remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0.

Rachel Bruinsma led the way with 17 points, followed by Julie Merz with 10 and Vanessa Eekhoff with eight.

Junior Varsity: WMC defeated Muskegon Heights Academy, 53-3. Abbie Alfree scored all 14 of her points in the first half as WMC built a 37-3 halftime lead.  Melanie Weesies and Ellie Gilson scored 10 points each and Mikaela Erickson added 9 for the Lady Warriors.

WMC BOYS ROMP

Nate Taylor scored the first five points for Western Michigan Christian and the Warriors never trailed in a 64-38 win over host Hudsonville Freedom Christian.

The Warriors, 6-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference play, led 14-6 at the first stop, 32-11 at halftime and 51-27 going into the final period.

Taylor drilled five treys on the night and led WMC with 17 points. Bernard Smith added nine points while Jacob Ray and Logan Waller each scored seven points.

Both the Warriors’ boys and girls squads will travel to face Spring Lake today. The varsity girls’ game is set for 5 p.m., with the varsity
