Spring Lake’s ski team surely isn’t performing like a first-year varsity squad.
After a solid conference debut last week, the Lakers took it a step further on Tuesday at Cannonsburg Ski Area, as the team took first place in both the slalom and giant slalom at the second Greater Grand Rapids Ski Conference Meet.
Harrison Palmer led the Lakers’ charge in giant slalom, as he paced the team with a fifth-place finish in a total combined time of 55.60 seconds. A pair of his teammates would be right on his heels, as Nora Reed — a girl competing against the boys — was sixth (55.76), and Collin Roberts placed seventh (56.01).
Grand Haven was seventh in the giant slalom, led by Kevin Stolarski’s 17th place showing and a 29th place finish from Lukas Walling.
In the slalom, Bricker Reed took sixth-place honors for Spring Lake, turning in a combined time of 1:00.88. The Lakers’ Collin Roberts was seventh with a 1:01.36, and Nora Reed took 10th (1:01.46).
Grand Haven remained in seventh in the slalom, with Greg Page turning in the fastest time of 1:05.78, good for 29th. Walling was right behind in 30th.
In the girls’ competition, Grand Haven placed fifth in the giant slalom and seventh in the slalom.
The Bucs’ Casey Davis was the team’s top finisher in both events, as she was 17th in the giant slalom and 20th in the slalom.
Bailey Coval and Lindy Vallier were 19th and 25th, respectively in the giant slalom, while Hannah Landman had a 25th place showing in the slalom.
