Despite being outshot 28-17, Grand Haven’s varsity hockey team lit the lamp four times and only allowed a single goal in Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

Goalie Zach Kooi was tested often, and he stood up to the challenge, making 27 saves.

Tom Zelenka, Asa Pellegrom, James Dyksterhouse and Ian Hibbard each scored goals for the Bucs. Hibbard also had two assists, while Matt Nalley, Jake Steggles and Zelenka also had assists.

The Buccaneers only took one penalty on the night.

Grand Haven is now 9-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in O-K Tier 1 play heading into Friday’s showdown with East Grand Rapids. That game will be played at Petterson Arena at 8 p.m.
