Fruitport’s defense came out in the third quarter fired up and the Trojans received key offensive contributions from Jessica Erny and Alexis Black, helping them pull out a 36-30 win over visiting Fremont on Friday at Fruitport High School.

The victory was the second-straight in the Lakes Eight Conference for Fruitport, which improves to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in league play.

After a 13-3 scoring edge in the third, Fruitport extended the lead to as large as 12 in the fourth after a pair of breakaway layups by Bre Burns. The junior forward led the Trojans with 10 points.

Erny added nine points for the Trojans, while Debbie Pekel scored seven.

Fruitport head coach Bob German commended Pekel’s defense, as well as junior forward Francesca Cerniglia’s activity on the boards. She grabbed a season-high 12.

Fremont was led by Marissa Spiekerman, who scored all eight of her points during a second-quarter run. It helped the Packers take a 16-14 lead at the half.
