Grand Haven’s varsity hockey team scored a key Tier I victory over East Kentwood on Friday, 4-3.
The Buccaneers raced out to leads of 2-0 and 4-2, but couldn’t ever put away the stubborn Falcons.
Hayden Modaff and Tyler Ploeg scored the Bucs’ first two goals, with assists going to Tom Zelenka and Ian Hibbard.
After East Kentwood tied the game at 2-2, James Dyksterhouse and Modaff scored third-period goals to make it 4-2 Grand Haven. Asa Pellegrom, Jake Steggles, Zelenka and Ploeg provided assists.
The Falcons’ Austin Adams scored later in the third period.
Zach Kooi made 29 saves as Grand Haven improved to 12-5-2 overall and 6-3-1 in league play. The Bucs host non-conference foe Northville next Friday at 7 p.m. at the Holland Edge Ice Arena.
