Spring Lake heavyweight Billy Belcher continued his outstanding season on Saturday, going 5-0 at the Shelby Duals.
As a team, the Lakers finished 3-2, with wins over Cedar Springs (40-36), Kenowa Hills (33-27), and Grant (48-25). Spring Lake was defeated by Grand Rapids Catholic Central (57-9) and Kent City (42-36).
Spring Lake also had strong showings from George Nietering at 119 pounds and Jared Marod at 189, who both finished with 4-1 records. Maxx Kriger (130), Josh Stiffler (135), Zack Kennedy (160), and Shane Skorupski (215) each tallied 3-2 records.
"Not a bad day,” said Spring Lake coach Dan Robinson. “We saw some good competition and the boys wrestled well. We were missing a few weights so that hurt us.
“We wanted the boys to work on a few things today to look to improve as we head down the stretch of the season and a lot of the guys did that. George wrestled a great day with some tough competition and I was pleased with Billy and Jared's day.”
Spring Lake's next two competitions will be at Orchard View — a quad meet on Wednesday, and the Lakes Eight Conference tournament on Saturday. On Saturday, the Lakers will look to clinch the outright league title.
