Senior guard Mark Carlson erupted for 30 points — thanks to a 6-of-11 shooting night from the 3-point line — helping Fruitport Calvary Christian defeat non-conference foe Hudsonville Freedom Christian, 63-45.

The victory improves the Eagles’ record to 7-4 this season.

“It was a close game. We were only up one at the half,” said Eagles’ head coach Jim Warren. “They have a tall lineup that’s keen on slashing to the hoop and we didn’t do a very good job of taking that away early on.”

Calvary Christian picked up the defensive intensity in the second half, holding Freedom to 18 points.

Eagles’ center Michael Warren had 24 points and 12 rebounds.

On Friday, Calvary Christian defeated Heritage Christian, 60-31, thanks to Warren’s 24 points and 21 from Carlson.

Calvary travels to face Muskegon Catholic Central on Thursday, with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.

LOW-POST DUO PACES WMC

The Lady Warriors, now 10-4 on the season, led 16-7 at the first stop and 39-29 at intermission.

Alyssa Wright added 8 points while Julie Merz dished out seven assists and had five steals. Cassidy Kraker had four assists.
