Eekhoff catches fire late, leads WMC girls to win

Senior forward scores all 13 of her points in final 5 minutes

Senior Vanessa Eekhoff caught fire in the closing moments Thurday night to help keep host Western Michigan Christian undefeated in league play with a 44-41 win over Covenant Christian.

The senior post player, who spent significant time on the bench in foul trouble, scored all 13 of her points in the last five minutes of the game, including seven in the final two minutes.

The Lady Warriors, now 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the River Valley Conference, trailed 29-25 going into the final period.

WMC's Rachel Bruinsma added 11 points, snared 13 rebounds, had eight steals and five blocks while teammate Julie Merz had six points, eight assists and eight steals. Alyssa Wright chipped in with eight points.

Junior Varsity: WMC lost 54-18. Mikaela Erickson led the Lady Warriors with six points and Kristina Veurink chipped in with four.
