With nearly all West Michigan schools closed today because of the wintry weather, the status of tonight’s athletic events remains cloudy.

Grand Haven High School director of athletics Robin Bye said that most other O-K Red schools are closed today, including Hudsonville, which is supposed to send its boys and girls varsity basketball teams to Grand Haven tonight.

Bye hinted that if Hudsonville was willing to send its teams on the snowy roads, Grand Haven would be open to hosting the games.

Less likely to take place is the O-K Red Conference wrestling meet at Rockford, or the Bucs’ home varsity hockey game against Grand Rapids Northview.

Spring Lake athletic director Cavin Mohrhardt has already had to reschedule the Lakers’ varsity boys basketball game at Fremont twice because of snow days. He’d like nothing more than to avoid having to reschedule the boys and girls games at Grant tonight, especially since Grant has school.

“We won’t know until probably noon,” Mohrheart said. “My thought is no, but if it clears up, we’ll try to get up there.”

Fruitport did not cancel school today, and according to athletic director Ken Erny, the Trojans’ varsity boys and girls basketball teams will make the trip to Tri-County tonight, unless the weather deteriorates significantly before then.
