Fruitport’s varsity boys basketball team received big contributions from senior guard Aaron Veihl and junior forward Travis Grimm in the Trojans’ Lakes Eight Conference 67-51 road win at Orchard View Tuesday evening.

Veihl, a 6-foot point guard, had 18 points and six rebounds, while Grimm was just short of a double-double with eight points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

Fruitport improves to 7-8 overall and 5-5 in the Lakes Eight.

The Trojans started slow against the one-win Cardinals, trailing 10-8 after one quarter. But Fruitport poured in 22 points in the second quarter and took a 30-25 lead into the half.

Fruitport increased its advantage to eight after three quarters, then outscored the host Cardinals 20-12 in the fourth.

The Trojans featured tremendous balanced scoring. Guards Caleb Cutler and Tyler Fehler scored 17 and 14 points, respectively, while center Amilio Flores produced nine points and six rebounds.

It was a one-man show for Orchard View, as John Leonard had 28 points and 17 rebounds.
