Spring Lake varsity swim coach Jason Lintjer singled out swimmers Jesse Ruter and Marshall Bailey, as well as diver Erik Lukkari with having strong performances in the Lakers’ dual meet loss to Grandville on Tuesday, 105-76.

Ruter got a lot of bang for his buck in the 100-yard backstroke, as he won the event in 58.97 seconds and turned in a Division 3 state finals-qualifying time. He also had a state cut in the 100 freestyle at 51.44, but settled for second to the Bulldogs’ Sam Timmer.

In the evening’s final event, Ruter swam the closing leg on the Lakers’ victorious 400 freestyle relay that finished in 3:43.96. The relay also featured Blake Henning, Jared Knorr and Connor Love.

Bailey’s highlight was a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle, as he touched the wall in 5:43.28.

Lukkari continued his stellar season in diving with another victory, winning with a score of 236.6. Lakers’ junior Sam Thornsen placed fourth.
