Tyler Ploeg’s goal in the closing moments of overtime lifted Grand Haven’s varsity hockey team to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Forest Hills Northern/Eastern on Wednesday.
The Buccaneers owned a 2-1 lead following goals by Hayden Modaff and Tom Zelenka, but Forest Hills stormed back and claimed a 3-2 advantage with a pair of second-period goals.
Zelenka scored again, assisted by Nathan Schmidt, to tie the game late in the second period.
The third period was scoreless.
Bucs’ goalie Zach Kooi made 20 saves, while the Bucs peppered Forest Hills goalie Bryce Bignall with 40 shots. He made 36 stops.
Ian Hibbard, Zelenka and Ploeg added assists for Grand Haven, which is now 14-7-2 overall and 7-3-1 in O-K Tier 1 play.
Grand Haven is back in action Friday at 7 p.m. against Flint Powers Catholic.
