The Grand Haven Central Phoenix boys’ basketball team reclaimed first place in the Lakeshore Honors League with a 58-55 win over West Ottawa’s Anchor at Harderwyk Church in Holland.
Mike Penland led the Phoenix with 20 points, Tyler Little added 12, and Hector Chavez had seven points — aided by a 5-of-6 effort at the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
Grand Haven was defeated by Hudsonville on Monday, 51-41. Noah Lein had 13 points to lead the Bucs, while B.J. Nahal added six. The Bucs' junior varsity and freshmen games against Hudsonville on Thursday have also been switched. The JV tips off at 5:30, while the freshman game will follow at 7 p.m.
Grand Haven knocked off Hudsonville, 42-36, thanks to 15 points and nine rebounds from Jason Long. Levi Overway added six points and five boards, and Drew Hewitt scored eight for the Bucs (10-7).
Spring Lake was edged by Fremont, 44-42. Aaron Tilton had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers (6-7). Marshal Gabala scored 10 points, and Erik Sieversten added nine.
Every player scored for Grand Haven in Monday’s 51-37 win over Hudsonville. Anna Gagnon led the way with 10 points and three steals, while Amy Kober added 11 points and six boards. Katelyn Messer had six points, eight rebounds and four assists; Amber Keefe scored five points; and Sawyer Overway scored six for the Bucs (10-7).
Lauren Strong had a performance that matched her last name with 15 points and nine rebounds, helping Grand Haven defeat Hudsonville, 43-40. Taylor Fase added 10 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists, while Pixie Bitner totaled seven points, five rebounds and three steals for the Bucs (12-5 overall, 4-1 O-K Red).
