Grand Haven senior Casey Carlson closed out his prep diving career with an eighth-place finish at Saturday’s Division 1 swimming and diving meet, held at Holland High School.
Carlson finished with a score of 384.15 points, just a few tenths of a point behind West Ottawa’s Tanner Bosma and Saline’s Dustin Wall, who each scored 345.45.
Forest Hills Northern senior Nick Nicoletti won the state title with 442.30 points.
Grand Haven’s Griffin Dwyer finished 18th in the diving competition.
Saline won the team title with 313 points, edging Birmingham Brother Rice by just four points. Rockford was fourth with 163 points. Zeeland placed sixth at 155.5; West Ottawa seventh at 142; and Hudsonville ninth at 107.
LUKKARI TAKES 14th
Spring Lake senior Erik Lukkari placed 14th in the diving competition at the Division 3 state mee, which was held at Eastern Michigan University.
Lukkari finished with a score of 349.40.
The highlight of the meet for Lukkari came when he nailed his reverse 1 1/2 summersault with 1 ½ twists. His core of more than 50 points was the highest-scoring dive of the entire event.
Marshall sophomore Henry Swett won the state title with a score of 431.20.
East Grand Rapids won the team state championship with 278 points, edging Cranbrook Kingswood, which was second with 274. Holland Christian took ninth with 84 points.
