They marched through their district tournament with three convincing wins, then fought off hostile crowds to take down two tough opponents in the regionals.

They dispatched yet another up-and-coming foe in the quarterfinals.

Now, finally, the Buccaneers’ varsity girls basketball team has realized the dream they’ve tried so hard not to think about, not to talk about, all season long. They’re going back to the Breslin.

For the third consecutive year, Grand Haven will compete in the state finals at the Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Two years ago, the Bucs came up agonizingly short in a one-point semifinals loss to Detroit Rennassaince.

Last winter, Grand Haven sent shockwaves through the community with a rousing come-from-behind state championship game win over Grosse Pointe South.

On Friday, the Bucs will be back at the Bresin, this time putting their flawless 26-0 record up against Westland John Glenn (24-1). Tip-off is 1 p.m.

Can the Buccaneers repeat and hoist another state championship trophy? And just who are the girls who have led the Bucs back to the Breslin?
