Spring Lake High School graduate Blake Rottschafer was recently named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) men’s track athlete of the week.
Rottschafer, a senior at Hope College, took first place in the men’s 5,000-meter run at the Rhodes, Tenn., Open. His time of 15 minutes, 21.48 seconds was more than 13 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
This is Rottschafer’s first career MIAA athlete-of-the-week honor.
On Saturday, Rottschafer took the gold in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:38.95. He won the same event at the Trine Invitational on Feb. 1 with a time of 9:01.13.
This past fall, Rottschafter was named the Hope men’s cross country’s most valuable runner.
BURNS CONTRIBUTES AT STEVENSON
Grand Haven High School graduate Matt Burns is a freshman on the No. 2-ranked Stevenson men’s lacrosse team.
Stevenson is off to a 5-1 start to the season, including a 22-3 victory over Hood last Thursday. In that contest, Burns scored his first career goal.
Burns has played in two games this spring, recording two shots on goal.
Stevenson is a Division III school located in Owings Mills, Md.
