Lakers' girls tennis wins season-opening quad

SL earns titles in 4 flights at DeWitt Tennis Center

Spring Lake’s varsity girls tennis team scored a season-opening victory for new head coach Cathy Layson on Monday, as the Lakers won a quad at the DeWitt Tennis Center in Holland, an event hosted by Zeeland East.

Spring Lake won the quad with 19 points, beating out runner-up Grand Rapids Christian’s 16 points. The host Chix had 11 points and Greenville totaled two.

The Lakers had four flight champions, including three in singles action. Senior Lenka Pousova went 3-0 for the victory at No. 1 singles; sophomore Amanda Twu swept the opposition at No. 3; and freshman Meryn Campbell went undefeated at No. 4.

Winning in doubles play was the No. 1 team of seniors Madison Khem and Faith Lee.

Also medaling for the Lakers was the No. 2 doubles team of Stephanie Sabo and Jori Henderson, who finished runner-up in their flight; and the No. 4 doubles team of Megan Oostindie and Rachel Briegel.
