The Katty Shack 5K, a memorial run/walk benefitting The Crime Victim Foundation and honoring the victims of a 2008 quadruple murder in Wright Township, will be held Saturday, April 20, in Grand Haven.

The fourth-annual race begins at Mary A. White Elementary School at 1400 Wisconsin Ave., and finishes at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Taylor Avenue.

In addition to the 5K run and walk, there will be a one-mile run and walk also offered, allowing people of all ages and fitness levels to participate.  With its push to get more runners involved, as well as families, race organizers are hoping to surpass last year’s total of 426 participants.

After the race, runners and volunteers will be treated to a free pancake breakfast at St. John’s as race awards and door prizes are presented.

The “Fuel-Up for Katty Shack” pasta dinner will be held the evening before the race on Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at St. Patrick’s Family Center on Fulton Street in Grand Haven. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children 5-12 and children under 5 eat for free. Race packets will also be available for pick up during the dinner.

Since its inaugural race, Katty Shack has contributed $28,000 to the Crime Victim Foundation. This year’s race will be dedicated to Senator William VanRegenmorter, an influential and life-long victim’s advocate in Michigan.
