After a fifth-place showing at Saturday’s Allegan Invitational, Spring Lake’s varsity tennis team jumped back into winning form with a 7-1 triumph over Whitehall on Monday.
Spring Lake took three of four singles flights, as Lenka Pousova, Amanda Twu and Meryn Campbell each won in straight sets against the Vikings. Lakers’ junior Roxane Stroebel was dealt a 6-3, 6-1 loss by the Vikings’ Hannah Potter.
Spring Lake saw more stellar play from its doubles teams, as Madison Khem and Faith Lee won in two games at No. 1; Stephanie Sabo and Jori Henderson swept at No. 2; Maddie Parker and Audrie Dalman scored a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3; and Rachel Briegel and Megan Oostindie pulled out a tight 7-6 (8), 6-3 win at No. 4.
“Everyone played well,” said Spring Lake coach Cathy Layson. “(Amanda Twu) held off a very stubborn opponent, as did four doubles. No. 2 doubles had a slow start, but found their groove late in the first set and never looked back.”
