Grand Haven’s varsity golf team was hoping to go to 2-0 in O-K Red dual meets, but Grandville had different ideas.
Playing in wet and sloppy conditions, the Bucs couldn’t catch a terrific three-player performance by the Bulldogs in a 152-164 final.
Grandville had three players shoot in the 30s, led by Seth Terpstra’s 35. Jordan Matson carded a 36 and Blake Male shot a 38.
“The scores were better than expected for the conditions,” said Grand Haven coach Randy White. “The final green had a river of water running through it by the time we made our final putts.
“The Grandville team rained on our parade by firing some amazing scores. We played well, but it wasn’t enough.”
Mark Nally was the low scorer for the Bucs with a 37, while no other Grand Haven golfer finished higher than 44.
Reid Murphy totaled a 41, Kevin LaCroix added a 42, and Patrick Ferris, Matt Nalley and Tyler Vandenbrand each recorded a 44.
Grand Haven will look to get back into the win column on Thursday as it hosts Hudsonville and West Ottawa at Grand Haven Golf Club.
