Bucs' defense struggles against Panthers

Grand Haven’s varsity girls softball team suffered a pair of losses to O-K Red Conference rival West Ottawa on Wednesday as the Panthers scored wins of 14-4 and 14-2.

In the opener, Bucs’ pitchers R.J. Morrow, Audrey Boersen and Kaylee Hartwell teamed up to face the Panthers. That threesome consists of a sophomore and two freshmen, with sophomore Cheyanne Ray behind the plate.

The Bucs’ defense didn’t do its pitchers any favors, committing eight errors.

Morrow, Ray, Cierra Slocum and Katelyn Messer each had RBIs for the Bucs, with Hartwell and Madison Barshaw each belting a double.

In Game 2, Hartwell and Morrow teamed up to pitch for the Bucs. They had a combined two strikeouts and six walks.

Messer had an RBI for the Bucs, while Boersen scored by stealing home.

Junior Varsity: The Bucs scored a pair of wins over West Ottawa behind the solid pitching of Kylee Masko.
