After a long wait, the WMC Lady Warriors opened their 2013 season with a game against Montague and came up on the wrong side of a 22-0 outcome.

WMC’s Anna Sweetman reached base twice on a walk and single; Lorelle Hallenbeck reached on a walk; and Ariana Brondyke collected WMC's other hit.

Sweetman pitched three strong innings, striking out two and walking two, but was the victim of several errors. All 22 Montague runs were unearned.

"After waiting so long to get our season started, we had a rough game in the field," said WMC coach Jeff Nestell.  "Anna pitched a great game; we just didn't back her up on the field. We get right back at it tomorrow in the Orchard View tournament.  Hopefully, we can put this game behind us and play better, starting tomorrow."

JV BASEBALL DEFEATS MONTAGUE

WMC’s junior varsity baseball team Friday defeated host Montague 18-8 in five innings.

Jared Varnado reached base five times, scoring three runs for the Warriors and pitched three solid innings. Nelson Lowe led the scoring with four runs while Jordan Rhodes had a two-run double. Sam Goorman pitched the last two innings, striking out the last batter to end the game.
