Spring Lake’s varsity boys golf team continued its solid season with a second-place finish at Monday’s Shelby Invitational, played at Oceana Golf Club.
The Lakers were outstanding on the front nine, shooting a season-best 156, but struggled to close out their rounds, finishing with a season-worst 181 on the back.
“We had anything from 4-5 putts to eagles, and one guy had three birdies,” coach George Bitner said. “It was a zoo out there.”
The Lakers’ Henry McGanon took fourth overall with a round of 82. Ben Kramer and Bricker Reed each fired an 83, while Connor Love shot an 89.
North Muskegon won the event with a 334, three strokes better than Spring Lake.
On Friday, the Lakers won the Ottawa County Invitational for the second consecutive year, shooting a 336 at The Meadows in Allendale.
McGannon and Harrison Swanson each carded an 82, followed by Love with an 85 and Kramer with an 87.
The Lakers head to Ludington today for a league jamboree, then will play at Tri-County on Thursday and Fremont on Friday.
