Spring Lake’s varsity girls track team clinched at least a share of the Lakes Eight Conference championship on Thursday by easily defeating Ludington (94-43) and Grant (107-30) on Thursday at Grant High School.

The Lakers took first place in 10 events, and was led by Ashley Warner, who took top honors in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 38.14 seconds) and ran a leg on the 3,200-meter relay (10:11.62). The relay also featured Brittany Beeler, Erin O’Keefe, and Carlyn Arteaga.

Arteaga blew away the competition with wins in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes, and joined teammates Sydney Chaney, Emma Mitchell and Katie Wells in the winning 1,600 relay.

Other wins for the Lakers included Paige Rubleski in the 100 dash (13.92); Rubleski, Wells, Megan VanDeWeg and Ymani Williams in the 800 relay (1:53); O’Keefe in the 1,600 run (5:35.45); and the 400 relay of Williams, Rubleski, Callie Knorr and Allie LeRoux (54.35).

“This team is doing a great job of keeping themselves motivated in order to have a chance at a strong postseason run,” said Spring Lake coach Gera Peel.
