After giving away last week’s match to Grandville, Grand Haven’s varsity boys golf team made Rockford earn its victory on Tuesday.
The Buccaneers shot their best round of the season, putting together a team score of 156, but it wasn’t enough as the Rams had five golfers shoot in the 30s for a team score of 145.
“Our solid round wasn’t enough,” said Bucs’ coach Randy White, whose team shot a season-worst round of 174 in last week’s loss to Grandville. “This was our season-best nine-hole score, but it wasn’t enough to upset the undefeated Rockford Rams.”
Reid Murphy once again led the way for the Buccaneers with a 37, while Alex Crandle was a pleasant surprise with his round of 39.
Patrick Ferris and Matt Nalley each shot a 40, while Mark Nalley added a 44.
Rockford’s A.J. Yarekois was low medalist as he shot a 35. Teammate Joe Pietila shot a 36, while three different Rams’ golfers each shot a 37.
“I was pleased with our effort, but the Rams didn’t stumble,” White said. “We are getting better as the season goes on and I hope we continue to improve as we move into our postseason tournament on Thursday.”
That event will take place at Grand Haven Golf Club.
