Grand Haven was no match for No. 3-ranked Grandville in Game 1 of Tuesday’s O-K Red doubleheader, but the Buccaneers gave the Bulldogs a scare in Game 2.
After losing the opener, 15-0 in five innings, the Bucs fought back and lost Game 2 by an 8-3 score.
Errors, which have plagued the Buccaneers all year, were once again extremely costly in Game 1 as the Bucs committed 15 defensive miscues, including several in the opening two innings, allowing the Bulldogs race to a 13-0 lead.
R.J. Morrow pitched the opener for the Bucs, who loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the fourth inning but failed to push a run across the plate.
In Game 2, Kaylee Hartwell get the start in the pitcher’s circle for the Bucs, then Audrey Boersen closed out the game.
The Bucs cut their errors in half, committing only eight in Game 2.
Cierra Slocum had a base hit that scored R.J. Morrow while Kaylee Hartwell and Jordan Buckingham each scored runs for Grand Haven.
The Buccaneers have yet to win a league game this winter while the Bulldogs sit atop the conference standings with a 10-1 mark.
