Local sports roundup: Bucs' girls lacrosse dodges Red Arrows

Casey Davis fired in seven goals and also controlled six ground balls, guiding the Buccaneers’ girls lacrosse team to a 15-5 win over Lowell on Saturday.

Hillary Land added three goals and two ground ball controls, while Olivia Saber scored twice and collected one ground ball. 

Anya Berghoef also scored for the Bucs.

Stephanie Szymas made 14 saves in goal.

Next up for the Buccaneers is Wednesday’s regional contest against Portage. That game will be played at Rockford at 5:30 p.m.


Matt Nalley’s outstanding round of 77 guided the Grand Haven varsity boys golf team to a fifth-place finish at Saturday’s Rockford Invitational.

The host Rams won the event with a 318, followed by Grandville, which also shot a 318. Mona Shores was third at 323, followed by St. Johns with 327 and the Buccaneers with 328.

Nalley’s round of 77 helped him finish fifth overall at the event. Reid Murphy tied for 11th with an 80.

“This was a good tournament for us as we had our best finish ever in this event,” coach Randy White said. “The team, like the weather, keeps improving.”

Grand Haven will play at Muskegon Country Club today.
