The middle was fine for Grand Haven’s varsity girls soccer team on Monday against O-K Red Conference rival Hudsonville, but the beginning and end were forgettable for the Bucs in a 5-2 loss.

Grand Haven spotted the Eagles a 2-0 lead — coming on goals within 20 seconds on one another in the opening five minutes — but the Bucs found a way to battle back.

Grand Haven picked up goals from Emily Sexton and from leading scorer Mallory Beswick to tie the game at 2-2, only to see the Eagles close out the contest with three unanswered goals.

Faith Platz and Veronica Booth split time in goal for the Bucs. Booth did make six saves, but also allowed four goals.

Junior Varsity: Grand Haven scored a 2-1 win over Hudsonville, thanks to goals by Katie Jojtik and Mackenzie Burckhardt.

Freshmen: Grand Haven suffered a 2-0 loss to Hudsonville, despite a strong game from Ali Gust, Emma Grove, Taylor Fase, Emily VanderMoere and Abby Fritz.
