The West Michigan All-Star Track and Field Meet will be held at Reeths-Puffer this afternoon and evening, with several local athletes participating.
Buccaneers’ senior Justin Pippel is the top seed in the 3,200-meter run with a seed time of 9 minutes, 35.45 seconds.
Pippel will also run the 1,600 run.
The Bucs’ Malea Teerman is the second seed in the 800 run, with Spring Lake’s Carlyn Arteaga holding down the top seed.
The Bucs’ Grace Kendra will also have a chance to prove herself as one of the area’s top atheltes as she’s the No. 1 seed in the pole vault, one spot ahead of Spring Lake’s Allie LeRoux; and is the second seed in the long jump, behind Reeths-Puffer’s Christy Schultz.
Brad Gruizinga is the fourth seed in the boys pole vault, one spot ahead of Spring Lake’s school record holder Matt Batts.
Spring Lake’s girls 3,200 relay team of Arteaga, Erin O’Keefe, Ashley Warner and Brittany Beeler is the top seed, while the boys’ 3,200 relay team of Jake Chittenden, Austin Elliott, Connor Galligan and Tom Kordupel is the No. 2 seed.
Erin O’Keefe is the top seed in the girls’ 3,200 run and the fourth seed in the 1,600 run, while Elliot is the No. 4 seed in the boys’ 1,600 race. Elliott is also the fourth seed in the 800 run.
Beeler is the second seed in the 3,200 run.
Arteaga is the second seed, behind Fruitport’s Brianna Pekel, in the 400 dash, and is the third seed in the 200 dash, one spot ahead of Pekel.
The Lakers’ 1,600 relay team of Katie Wells, Arteaga, Emma Mitchell and Sydney Chaney is the No. 1 seed.
Lydia Suchecki is the No. 2 seed in the high jump, one spot ahead of teammate Grace Peterson.
Fruitport’s 800 relay team of Hannah Klinger, Debbie Pekel, Brianna Pekel and Heidi Klinger is the No. 3 seed, while Brianna Pekel is the fourth seed in the 200 dash.
The Trojans’ Alan Jones is the favorite in the discus as he comes in with the top seed mark of 139 feet, 11 inches.
The competition begins with the pole vault at 3:30 p.m., with other field events starting at 4. The running finals begin at 6:30 p.m., starting with the girls’ 100 dash.
