Haven girls lacrosse suffers season-ending loss

Bucs come up short against Portage Northern in regional showdown

Grand Haven’s varsity girls lacrosse team saw its season come to a disappointing close on Wednesday as the Buccaneers lost to Portage Northern, 14-9, in regional action at Rockford.

The two teams were tied 5-5 at halftime, but the Huskies pulled away over the closing minutes to record the win.

Casey Davis scored four goals for the Buccaneers, and also controlled three ground balls.

Courtney Hylok added two goals, a ground ball and a forced turnover, while single goals were added by Anna Gagnon, Savanna Tallman and Brooke Way.

Tallman added three ground balls, while Maria Hornby caused a turnover.

Stephanie Szymas made five saves in goal for the Bucs, who wrapped up a solid season with an 8-7 record.
