Several Spring Lake and Fruitport atheltes turned in memorable performances at Wednesday’s West Michigan All-Star track and field meet, held at Reeths-Puffer.
The Trojans’ Brianna Pekel ran to victory in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.92 seconds. Pekel placed third in the 800 at 2:25.72.
Sister Debbie Pekel was sixth in the 300 hurdles at 50.26.
Fellow Trojan Heidi Klinger took second in the 100 dash at 13.41 seconds. Spring Lake’s Allie LeRoux was fifth in that race at 13.74.
Frutiport’s 800 relay team took third, while Spring Lake placed second in the 1,600 relay. The Lakers then won the 3,200 relay as Erin O’Keefe, Ashley Warner, Brittany Beeler and Carlyn Arteaga ran to victory in 9:39.85.
Beeler had a fantastic run in the 3,200, beating out teammate O’Keefe for first place. Fellow Laker Brooke Carrier was sixth.
Arteaga placed second in the 200 dash at 27.05 seconds, while the Lakers’ Katie Wells was sixth in the 400 at 1:03.48,
In the field events, the Lakers’ Grace Peterson won the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches. Peterson also competed in the 300 hurdles, placing fourth.
LeRoux won the pole vault with a height of 11-6, beating out Grand Haven’s Grace Kendra by six inches. LeRoux also had a great showing in the long jump, taking second at 15-3 ¼. Fellow Laker Sydney DeCator was sixth.
In the boys competition, Grand Haven’s Justin Pippel won the 3,200 run in 9:42.68, then placed fifth in the 1,600 run at 4:31.20.
The Bucs’ Brandt Gruizinga won the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, while teammate B.J. Nahal finished third in the long jump at 19-5 ½. Mac Carter was fifth in the shot put at 43-2 ¾.
The Bucs’ Casey Collen took fourth in the 110 hurdles and was sixth in the 300 hurdles.
The Trojans’ Ben Kramer placed fourth in the 200 dash at 23.93 seconds.
Fruitport’s 800 relay team placed third, as did the Trojans’ 1,600 relay team.
Spring Lake was third in the 3,200 relay. Alan Jones was fourth in the discus at 134-2.
