The Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame has named Abby Cole of Grand Haven and Reed Hrynewich of Mona Shores as its female and male Student-Athletes of the Year for the 2012-2013 school year.
Cole and Hrynewich, who were selected based on their accomplishments in athletics, academics and school and community involvement, will be honored at the MASHF’s 27th Annual Induction Banquet on June 8 at Muskegon Country Club.
Cole was an all-state selection in both volleyball and basketball, where she led Grand Haven to back-to-back Class A state championships. Cole, a 6-foot-5 center and middle hitter, will attend the University of Michigan on a full-ride volleyball scholarship.
The other four female finalists were Morgan Smith (Mona Shores), Rachel Bruinsma (Western Michigan Christian), Keyara Wiard (Oakridge) and Macayla Greiner (Hart).
Hrynewich was a Dream Team all-state selection in both hockey and golf. Hrynewich, who had a 4.3 GPA while taking 11 Advanced Placement courses, will attend the University of Michigan on a full-ride golf scholarship.
The other four male finalists were Adam Clauss (Spring Lake), Matt Mulcahy (Grand Haven), Alec Breit (Western Michigan Christian) and Jacob Marsh (Montague).
The Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame, which houses its exhibits on the concourse level of the L.C. Walker Arena in downtown Muskegon, has been honoring top area high school student-athletes since 1996.
