Spring Lake boys golf coach George Bitner told his team, if they shot a team score of 160 on Tuesday, they should have no problem holding off Ludington in the race for the Lakes Eight Conference title.

Bitner’s boys took his words to heart.

The Lakers shot a 160, nine strokes better than the Orioles, and wrapped up their fourth consecutive conference championship with a win at the Fremont Jamboree, played at Watersmeet Golf Course.

“Our first four guys came in and we had a 161, then Harrison Palmer came in with a 43, and that dropped us down to a 160,” Bitner said. “They made me look like a profit.”

Ben Kramer, Bricker Reed and Connor Love each shot a 39 for the Lakers.

Henry McGannon added a 44, and Brenden Peel shot a 45.

Spring Lake now turns its attention to the Division 2 district meet at Cedar Chase Golf Course on Friday. The top six teams advance to the regional round of the state tournament.

“I think we can get out of districts,” Bitner said. “We have a good chance.”
