Sawyer Overway and Mya Copado each recorded hat tricks as the Grand Haven varsity girls soccer team throttled Grand Rapids Union, 13-0, in the opening round of the Division 1 district tournament on Wednesday in Grand Rapids.

Lydia Weykamp and Taylor DeWitt each scored twice, while Lanie Kenny, Hannah Landman and Mallory Beswick added single goals for the Buccaneers.

Beswick had four assists, and Emma McDonald added an assist for the Bucs.

Veronica Booth stopped the lone shot she faced to record the shutout in goal.

With the win, Grand Haven advances to Friday’s district semifinal contest at Mona Shores.

The Bucs will take on Grandville (9-7-1), which upset a strong Mona Shores squad on Tuesday, 2-0.

The Bucs and the Bulldogs have met twice this year, with Grandville winning 4-2 on May 9 and Grand Haven scoring a 3-1 win on May 23.
