Hudsonville’s varsity baseball team clinched the O-K Red Conference title at the expense of Grand Haven on Wednesday.

The Eagles, the defending Division 1 state champs, scored an 11-6 win over the host Buccaneers to finish tied with Rockford atop the league with a 12-4 mark, one game better than Rockford.

Grand Haven falls to 2-13 in conference games.

The Bucs actually got off to a hot start, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Hudsonville tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third, then Grand Haven went back on top 4-2 in the fourth.

A big fifth inning put the Eagles in control as they pushed eight runs across the plate thanks to home runs by Rob Greenman and Alex Roh.

Ty VanWieren got the start for the Buccaneers and was rock solid through two innings, allowing just one walk while striking out a pair.

Connor Grimes pitched the third and gave up two runs on three hits nad a walk, then John Wickey came on and pitched the fourth and fifth innings, getting pounded for eight runs on six hits and a pair of walks.

Cody Jonas was solid over the final two innings, limiting the Eagles to just one hit and one run.

Jonas had a great day at the plate, pounding out three hits, including a double. He scored once and drove in a run.

Nate Bonter added a pair of hits, while Grimes and Jeff Stevens each had a hit and scored a pair of runs.

Chad Mattson scored once and drove in a run, while Tanner Jonas also had an RBI.

Grand Haven will now look to put a disappointing regular season behind it and set out to win a third straight Division 1 district tournament.

The Bucs will meet a strong Mona Shores team in the district semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Kenowa Hills.
