Spring Lake’s varsity boys golf team saw its season come to a close with a seventh-place finish in the Division 2 regional tournament at Diamond Springs Golf Course in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Only the top three teams advance out of the regional tournament. Those spots went to regional champion Grand Rapids Christian, which shot a 318; Comstock Park, which was second at 232; and East Grand Rapids, which carded a 325.

Spring Lake was just a few strokes away from claiming one of those top spots, shooting a 329.

Connor Love led the Lakers with a strong round of 79, good for eighth overall. Henry McGannon placed 12th with an 81, while Ben Kramer was 22nd with an 83.

Bricker Reed shot an 86, and Brenden Peel carded a 94.

Love’s round of 79 was just one stroke away from the individual state meet qualifying cut.

Grand Haven’s golfers will take their shot at the regional round of competition on Friday. The Buccaneers will compete in the Div. 1 regional tournament at Cedar Creek Golf Course in Battle Creek.
