Elliot runs to victory at Heritage Fest 5K

Recently graduated Spring Lake High School senior Austin Elliot ran to victory in Saturday’s Heritage Festival 5K run/walk.

Elliott, who is coming off a terrific spring on the Lakers’ track and field team, blazed through the course in a time of 17 minutes, 3 seconds.

That put the 18-year-old Elliott in first place, four seconds faster than Devon Joslin, 19, of Twin Lake.

Grand Rapids’ Ephraim Rosalez, 30, of Grand Rapids, was third with a time of 17:29.

The popular early-summer race drew 269 runners and walkers to the event, which began and ended at Spring Lake’s Central Park.

The oldest runner was West Olive’s David Marckini, 77, who clocked a time of 40:28. The youngest was East Grand Rapids’ Reese Workman, 7, who came in at 40:37.

Jackie Seward, 15, of Muskegon was the top female finisher as she crossed the line in a time of 19:18, good for 12th place overall.

Amber Bolhuis, 33, of Spring Lake was second at 21:03, and Maria Kuiper, 16, of Zeeland was third at 21:09.
