The Spring Lake girls swimming and diving team won the Coastal Conference Relays in Ludington on Saturday.
The Lakers’ score of 130 was 14 more than that of second-place Ludington.
“We had some terrific swims and dives from our entire team today,” head coach Penny Zacek said. “Not having coached the girls' team for a couple years, I really did not know what some of our times would be. Both coach Aria Kieft and I were very pleased by what we saw in the pool this afternoon.”
Spring Lake took first in three of the meet’s 10 events.
The 400 medley relay team of Meghan Peel, Jennifer Meulenbelt, Sophie Conroy and Roxane Strobel had a time of 4:27.16.
Ellen Hyde, Jennifer Meulenbelt, Aubrey Rolston, Roxane Strobel defeated the competition in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:23.56
The Lakers also won the one-meter diving with a score of 383.65.
“While we know we have a lot of things to work on, it is always a great thing to start your season with a win,” Zacek said. “We have some very good swimmers in our conference from Manistee, Muskegon Catholic Central and Ludington. This season will be very interesting. We will need to step it up big if we want to bring the conference championship back to Spring Lake.”
