Trojans’ quarterback Luc Kostamo impressed his coaches over the summer with his hard work and dedication.
Friday night, he impressed them with results.
The Trojans’ newcomer to the quarterback spot ran for two scores and threw for two more, leading Fruitport to a commanding 40-19 victory at Fremont.
With the win, the Trojans move to 1-1 on the year and 1-0 in Lakes Eight play heading into next Friday’s showdown at Spring Lake.
“We started a little bit slow, and I was a little disappointed in that, but at the same time, we went in at halftime with a little bit of a flurry,” said Trojans’ coach Greg Vargas. “My halftime speech was going to be, ‘We need to make plays.’ Then we started making plays.
“It was really just our kids catching the darn ball and running with it.”
Kostamo, who led the Trojans with 103 yards rushing, scored on a 35-yard scamper to open the scoring.
