Grand Haven’s Annie Steinlage has started all seven games this fall for the No. 3-ranked Virginia women’s soccer team.
Steinlage, a Spring Lake High School graduate, began her collegiate career at Michigan State University, where she was first-team all-Big Ten her sophomore and junior seasons.
She transferred to Virginia this past offseason.
The move has paid dividends. Steinlage has become a mainstay on the Cavaliers’ defensive line, helping Virginia boast a 28-3 scoring advantage in its seven games this fall.
Steinlage has one assist on the season.
Virginia will take on Boston College on Thursday.
Beeler off and running for St. Mary’s
Spring Lake graduate Brittany Beeler is off to a fast start to her college running career.
Beeler, a freshman at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind., ran the sixth-fastest 5K time in school history at Saturday’s Calvin Knight Invitational.
Beeler’s time of 19 minutes, 5.5 seconds was good for 45th place overall in the meet.
Last week, the Belles competed in the Wabash Hokum Karem race in Crawfordsville, Ind.
In that event, pairs of runners combine to cover four miles. Beeler and teammate Jessica Biek ran to a team-best fifth-place finish with a time of 23:51.45.
