Grand Haven’s Claire Borchers placed fifth overall as the Buccaneers’ girls cross country team took fourth at the O-K Red Conference jamboree at West Ottawa on Tuesday.
Hudsonville won the meet with 33 points, followed by Rockford (42), Grandville (70) and the Bucs (105).
Borchers crossed the finish line in a time of 18 minutes, 35 seconds.
“Claire is looking very confident in her running right now, brining her time down over 30 seconds on the same course from just 10 days ago,” coach Scott Przystas said. “She knows her best meets are ahead of her and is taking a step forward with each meet.”
Lanie Kenny turned in a season-best time of 21:06 for the Bucs.
The Bucs’ boys also placed fourth — an outstanding finish, especially considering the Bucs were ranked sixth in the league heading into the meet.
Grandville took first with 50 points, followed by Rockford with 62.
Turner Sale led the Bucs with a gutsy run, going out fast in the first mile and hanging on to place 15th overall at 17:06. Andrew Tafelsky was 17th at 17:41, followed by John Miles in 19th place at 17:19 and Kyle Funk in 20th place at 17:19. Brent Petersen took 24th overall at 17:34.
