It’s almost as if you could check it off on your calendar. The Lakers’ girls play golf, the Lakers' girls win.
Consider Wednesday one of those days, as Spring Lake took its home jamboree at Spring Lake Country Club.
The Lakers’ score of 174 was 31 strokes better than second-place Tri-County. Fruitport came in last, shooting a 227. The Trojans’ score was their best in conference play this season.
Spring Lake has a commanding lead in the conference standings, with three of the five jamborees used to determine the season’s pecking order now complete.
The Lakers’ combined total of 512 is over 100 less than Ludington (615), Fremont (643), Tri-County (627) and Fruitport (708).
But the Lakers are used to dominating in conference play, having captured the last eight crowns.
The team Spring Lake is always chasing is the ghost of Lakers past, and this year they caught it.
