Grand Haven’s varsity volleyball team went 3-1 at Saturday’s Best of the West tournament in Portage.
The tournament was divided into a pair of pools, with no playoff to determine a champion.
In the opening round of pool play, the Bucs defeated Grand Rapids Christian, 29-27, 25-17. Grand Haven then fell to No. 5-ranked Portage Central, 25-18, 25-18.
That put the Bucs in second place in their first pool and put them into another group, which included O-K Red rivals Rockford and East Kentwood, along with St. Joseph.
Grand Haven knocked off St. Joseph, 25-20, 25-19, then edged rival Rockford, 25-22, 19-25, 15-13 to claim the No. 1 spot in the pool.
Krysteena Davis had her best outing of the season with 28 kills and 22 blocks.
Jami Hogeboom finished with 85 assists, 29 digs and nine blocks, while Taylor Craymer added 23 kills and 30 digs.
