Grand Haven’s varsity girls golf team placed sixth in Wednesday’s Division 1 regional meet at Stonewater Country Club in East Kentwood.
Grand Haven finished with 391 strokes on the day.
East Kentwood won the event with a 337. Holt was second at 348, and Rockford third at 369.
The top three teams earn berths in the state meet.
“We had an average day, and we needed to have a day like we did last week (at the conference tournament),” said Buccaneers’ coach Roger Glass. “There’s three water holes on the back nine that got us. One has a pond on the front of the green. That’s where we lost a lot of strokes.”
Junior Hailey Watkins shot the Bucs’ low score of 94, while sophomore Anna Gagnon shot a 96.
Seniors Megan Hendrickson and Martha Ramsey shot rounds of 100 and 101, respectively.
“I was really pleased with how they played throughout the year, how they improved and got better,” Glass said. “We just didn’t have our ‘A’ game today.”
