Tigers advance!

The Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland A's to advance to the American League Championship Series.

The Tigers won Game 5 of their best-of-five division series with the A's with a 3-0 win Thursday night.

Justin Verlander allowed just one hit and no runs through eight innings. He had a no-hitter going until the A's got a hit in the seventh inning.

Miguel Cabrera hit a 2-run homer in the fourth inning for the Tigers. Joaquin Benoit closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Tigers face the Red Sox for the AL Championship. The first game of the best-of-seven series is Saturday in Boston.

Haha, I certainly had some serious doubts and figured Leyland would have liked a different option. I will have to eat those words!
