Spring Lake continued its storybook golf season with a victory at Thursday’s Division 3 regional meet at Cedar Chase Golf Course.
The Lakers shot a team score of 354, five strokes better than second-place Froest Hills Eastern. Coopersville took third with 384 strokes.
“We weren’t real focused today, but we won anyway,” said Lakers’ coach George Bitner, whose team last won a regional title in 2003. The Lakers last advanced to the state meet as a team in 2011.
“Their objective at the beginning of the year was to get to state, and they’ve met that now,” Bitner said. “Now they can relax and play their game.”
Lakers’ freshman Anna Kramer finished fourth overall individually with a round of 86. Junior Ginnie Olszewski shot an 88, while sophomore Kayla Krueger added an 89.
Junior Karissa Raschke carded a 91, with sophomore Emma Conroy close behind with a 94.
“We have a little bit of work to do,” Bitner said. “We’re going to get to our problems at practice tomorrow.”
The Lakers will compete in the Division 3 state met next week Friday and Saturday at The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale.
Fruitport placed 10th as at Thursday’s meet with a score of 477.
The highlight for the Trojans was a hole-in-one by Alexis Jackel. The senior aced the 101-yard No. 3. She finished with an even 100 strokes on the day.
Jaclyn Staszcyzk added a 110, while Taylor Clark shot a 118, Andrea Benson with a 119, and Kelsey Alviar with a 128.
