As usual, the O-K Red Conference is loaded with talented volleyball teams this fall.
Two of the best — Hudsonville and Grand Haven — faced off on Thursday, with the host Buccaneers scoring a 3-0 win over the No. 9-ranked Eagles.
“Everybody’s so close in the Red right now,” said Bucs’ coach Aaron Smaka, whose team is an honorable mention in the latest Class A state rankings. “Tonight, our kids came out prepared, came out focused, and came out aggressively.”
The Bucs dominated the opening game, winning 25-12. In the second, they trailed 22-20 before Krysteena Davis had two big blocks and a kill, helping the home team score a 25-23 victory.
Game 3 saw the Bucs race out to an early lead and cruise to a 25-21 win.
